“Greetings!” from The Dialect

Hello and Welcome to The Dialect: an electronic internet website blog for language lovers. The Dialect is wrought by a wanna-be amatuer pop-linguist and hopes to delight other amatuer linguaphiles with a little something for everyone.  Savor the vignettes, scrutinize the facts, and please leave behind a little something of your own.  Enjoy!

I Googled “dialect” and “wordpress” then I was brought to your website. I think you’re doing a beautiful thing. I was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. I speak a variant of Minnan dialect from Southern China, which is hardly understood by Minnan people in China today. Our variant grew in Penang since Chinese immigrants moved down here some 220 years ago. It’s somehow a dying language because everybody pays more attention to English and Chinese Mandarin today. I am trying to record vocabulary and compile a concise dictionary. I hope I have the same effort as you in maintaining my own blog. 🙂
